The state’s population, including the aging population of California residents, continues
to become more racially and culturally diverse. Included in this growing diversity is the
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) population of older adults in California.
LGBT seniors may be fearful of not being able to live openly in senior care settings, or they
may experience increased vulnerability when seeking senior housing and care. Therefore,
the legislature decided to put training in place to help address the needs and sensitivities
surrounding the issues, fears, and discrimination that LGBT seniors may face.
