New Laws

New laws go into effect on January 1st of each year, unless otherwise specified. Regulations implementing the new laws can lag for years and some changes are “self-implementing” and never go into regulation.

Given this, staying apprised of changes and compliant with new rules can be a challenge. To help, CALA distributes official Implementation Plans  to members as soon as DSS releases them. In the meantime, members also have access to bill summaries of current new laws, as well as laws from recent years .

CALA has prepared the following bill summaries:

Effective January 1, 2024:

    • AB 839 RCFE Financing: CHFFA
    • AB 979 Family Councils
    • AB 1417 Mandated Elder Abuse Reporting
    • SB 525 Health Care Worker Minimum Wage
