What is the Creative View?

The Creative View is a special section in the News & Views, CALA’s award-winning quarterly magazine which features the poetry, fiction, memoir, and art of California’s Assisted Living, Memory Care, and CCRC residents and employees.

What Are We Looking For?

We are looking for poetry, short stories, memoirs, and art exploring issues that would be of interest to our primary audience, including aging, wisdom, caregiving, and community. We are also looking for works on any subject from residents. You must be a California resident to submit.

General Guidelines

Send all submissions–poetry, prose, and art–via email to Kevin Swartzendruber. Art submissions should be in high resolution, 300 dpi jpeg or tiff files. Include your contact information and a short, one-to-two-sentence bio. We accept submissions year-round. Response times are one to three months. Sometimes, a piece may be held longer for consideration in a later issue. We do not accept previously published material.

Terms of Agreement

By submitting to the Creative View, you grant CALA permission to post or publish the work on CALA’s website, Facebook page, blog, magazine, and through any other lawful medium. In addition, but supplying additional information, including name, place of residence, and bio, you grant CALA permission to post this information in conjunction with the work. All rights revert back to the submitter after printing. Submitters will receive one contributor’s copy.
